There’s lots to love about the features of the 2022 Ford Explorer. Read more as we go over a few of our favorite things about the mid-sized SUV, like its performance and looks.
Trims
There are 10 trim levels to choose from. With so many options, we know you’ll find the perfect Explorer. On top of their regular trims, they also offer the ST and hybrid levels. The ST trim levels are sportier, and the hybrid speaks for itself.
Engine, Power and Performance
The Explorer’s base engine is a turbocharged 2.3-liter four-cylinder with 300 horsepower. The luxury trim level – the King Ranch, Platinum and ST models – are powered under the hood by a more beefy twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V-6 with 400 horsepower. The hybrid engine is a 3.3-liter V-6 with electric motor capable of 318 horsepower. Rear-wheel-drive is standard, but all-wheel drive is an available upgrade. Also standard across all lines is a 10-speed automatic transmission.
Interior
In an Explorer, the third row is standard! Ford has made it easy to get into the third row. With just a push of a button, the second-row seat moves out of the way creating easy access to the back. An 8-inch screen in the front is standard and includes Apply CarPlay and Android Auto.
Safety
The Ford Explorer offers a ton of standard safety features and was even awarded the 2022 Top Safety Pick by the IIHS. Important safety features include:
- Automated emergency braking with forward-collision warning
- Lane-keep assist with lane-departure warning
- Rear-cross-traffic alert with blind-spot monitoring
