Features of the Ford F-450

Exterior

The exterior of the Ford F-450 is built tough. From its power deployable running boards, Quad-Beam LED headlamps, LED fog lamps, and LED Box Lighting PowerScope Trailer Tow Mirrors, the F-450 is built to take on any task and any inclement weather the road throws at it. That’s not to say the F-450 is plain or dowdy, from its high airflow grille to its body-color door handles with satin chrome pull handles, the F-450 can still turn heads, city or highway. But its exterior is meant for function, with a power lock tailgate with remote release and chrome tow hooks for the heaviest loads.

Wheels

For a big truck, drivers need big wheels. The F-450 provides this with wheel size 19.5 X 6 inches forged in strong aluminum.

Engine

The F-450 may have a rugged exterior, but it’s what’s under the hood that counts. And this truck does not disappoint with a 6.7-liter turbo V-8 diesel with a 10-speed automatic. Configured with different drives according to trim, the XL, XLT, and Lariat all are rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive. The top tiers are only four-wheel drive. A larger optional engine is a 7.3-liter V-8 gasoline variant or a 6.7-liter V-8 turbodiesel engine. Regardless of drive, the engines give boosts of power when drivers need it most whether off-road, towing, or hauling cargo.

Horsepower

With its 6.7 turbo liter engine, the F-450 features great towing and hauling capacity. Standard horsepower and torque for this vehicle is 385 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque. A 7.3-liter V-8 gasoline variant delivers 430 horsepower and 475 pound-feet of torque. Finally, the F-450’s 6.7-liter V-8 turbo diesel engine generates 475 horsepower and up to 1050 pound-feet of torque. The maximum towing capacity is an amazing 35,000 pounds.

Safety

Safety for this strong truck is paramount. The standard for the F-450 includes dual-stage driver and passenger seat-mounted side airbags, safety canopy system curtain first-row airbags, and dual-stage driver and passenger front airbags with passenger off switch. For additional passenger and driver safety, the standard trim has side impact beams and outboard front lap and shoulder safety belts, including height adjustment for the belts. Driveline traction control helps to reduce tire spin if the vehicle is out of driver control, such as skidding.

For the higher trims, such as the XLT, the F-450 has the Mykey System with a top speed limiter, early low fuel warning, an audio volume limiter, and programmable sound chimes for a beltminder with audio mute reminding passengers and drivers to buckle up. The highest trim, the Lariat, adds the Ford Co-Pilot360. These functions are pre-collision assist with automatic emergency braking (AEB) to automatically brake when the vehicle senses an imminent collision, and its Ford Co-Pilot360 cross-traffic alert. As a truck, the F-450 is a great consideration for drivers wanting style, strength, and safety.
