Rich in history and brimming with natural beauty, it’s difficult to say no to a stop in Blackfoot, ID. Whether you’re a sportsman, camper, road-tripper, or are native to the area and looking for something fun to do, there are some great parks in the area that will make your day.
1. North Bingham County Historical Park
This 10-acre historic park is closer to Shelley but has beautifully landscaped grounds; the park has moved 15 different historic structures onto the site, creating an immersive experience for visitors. The Park offers hands-on classes, tours, exploration stations, and special events to raise awareness and educate young ones, making it worth the 20-minute drive.
2. Moreland Park
Located just 5.9 miles from Blackfoot, this 39-acre park offers picnic areas and facilities, softball fields, and a playground area. There are three ponds on site for fishing, as well as RV parking and camping sites. Spend the day with family and friends or stay for a few days and enjoy all the park has to offer.
3. Rose Park
Rose Park, situated on the northeast side of Blackfoot, features indoor and outdoor archery ranges and a 40-acre lake for fishing and swimming. They have campsites dispersed throughout the park and there are no fees, but there are also no services or electricity as well as a 5-night restriction for overnighters.
4. Sportsman’s Park
This recreational area is worth the 41-mile drive to the west side of the American Falls Reservoir. Not only does the park double as main access to the lake with two boat ramps during the warmer seasons, but it’s also a popular ice-fishing locale in the winter.
There are campsites scattered throughout the park, as well as dump sites for your RV, as well as trails, playgrounds, and observation platforms. There’s even a duck and goose hunting area separate from the main park for those that are so inclined.
5. Springfield Bird Haven
Located 24 miles southeast of Blackfoot, this 2-acre haven is a cultural park situated adjacent to the Springfield Reservoir. With its boat dock, restroom facilities, and picnic area, this is a great spot to fish and swim, have a picnic, or enjoy the birds. There are tables and a playground, so pack a lunch and spend the day.
6. The Greater Blackfoot Greenbelt
This site can be found on the south end of Jensen Lake and includes Jensen Grove Park, a golf course, ball fields, and a 6.5-mile multi-use trail that connects to various locales along the way. Jensen Grove Park serves as the recreational hub of the site, with picnic areas, playgrounds, disc golf, basketball courts, and an amphitheater. With a full skate park and beach area on the lakeshore, this site has something for everyone.
