2022 Ford Expedition
With a muscular engine and a roomy frame, the Expedition is an easy candidate for anyone seeking a new SUV. For the 2022 model year, the XL trim, a two-row (five-seater) model, makes a debut. Ford's Co-Pilot 360 Assist suite of safety features is now available as an option on the XLT trim.
Trim Levels (Exterior)
The XL, XLT, Limited, King Ranch, and Platinum are the five 2022 Ford Expedition trim levels. An extended-wheelbase configuration known as the Expedition Max is available on all trims, except for the XL, which comes standard with 18-inch wheels, and foglights. Other than some minor body upgrades, the XLT trim is where three-row seating becomes available.
The Limited trim adds power-folding mirrors and 20-inch wheels. The King Ranch trim has 22-inch wheels, stone gray exterior trim, LED headlights and foglights, a panoramic glass roof, and King Ranch badges and emblems. Roof rails and crossbars provide a distinct look to the supercharged Platinum trim. Most of the trims can be equipped with all-terrain tires and skid plates through the FX4 Off-Road package.
Engine (Power)
Paired to a 10-speed automatic transmission, every model of the 2022 Ford Expedition comes equipped with a 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged EcoBoost V-6 engine that pumps out 375 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque. For the Platinum trim, these numbers rise to 400 horsepower and 480 pound-feet of torque. Either engine has more than enough power for commutes and other common driving tasks.
Performance
Despite being a broad vehicle, the 2022 Expedition is easy to maneuver and comfortable for both drivers and passengers. The rear-wheel-drive models offer 17/23 city/highway mpg, whereas the all-wheel-drive models offer 17/22 city/highway mpg with the standard wheelbase or 16/21 city/highway mpg with the Expedition Max. The off-roading packages add more adventure capability or practicality for off-road tasks. When properly equipped, the Expedition can tow up to 9,300 pounds.
Interior
The standard 2022 Expedition body offers an overall cargo space of 104.6 cubic feet behind the first row. That extends to 121.5 cubic feet on extended-wheelbase models. A second-row captain seat configuration option is available, at the cost of lowering the total seats from eight to seven. The interior is attractive and up to date with current standards, whether in seat comfort, convenience features, and customization.
At standard, all Expeditions have an 8-inch touch screen with the SYNC3 infotainment system, a Wi-Fi hotspot, four USB ports, a six-speaker stereo, Android Auto, and Apple CarPlay. An 8-inch digital gauge cluster, wireless device charging, navigation, a 12-speaker Bang & Olufsen stereo, HD Radio, satellite radio, two more USB ports, and a rear-seat entertainment system with two screens are some of the available infotainment features. A panoramic sunroof and a tri-zone automatic climate controller are available as well.
Safety Features
The 2022 Ford Expedition has earned five-star safety ratings from the NHTSA for frontal and side crash tests, and the SUV has a wealth of driver aids included, from the starting XL and up. Its standard safety features include automatic emergency braking, automatic high-beam headlights, and a rearview camera. Stop-and-go adaptive cruise control, parking sensors, and a 360-degree camera are some of the available advanced safety features.
