2022 Ford Escape
As a compact crossover SUV, the Ford Escape underwent a complete redesign with the addition of several more standard driver-assistance features as well as a revamped engine lineup. This versatile vehicle is roomier and more powerful than the previous Escape, and its user-friendly infotainment system is bound to keep all types of travelers entertained. Use this guide to learn what else you can expect with the 2022 Escape and why you should consider it for your next purchase.
Trim Levels (Exterior)
The 2022 Ford Escape comes in four trims: S, SE, SEL, and Titanium. Thanks to the revamped design, the Escape has left its boxy look behind and now features a more sloped contour. This new design is more aerodynamic, which helps improve fuel economy. Even the models that have roof racks have a lower profile as to reduce wind resistance.
Engine (Power)
Power for the 2022 Escape comes from one of two engine options. The base 1.5-liter three-cylinder EcoBoost engine produces 181 horsepower and 190 pound-feet of torque. Optional in the SEL trim but standard on the Titanium one is a 2.0-liter four-cylinder one that gets 250 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque. Both engines are mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive comes standard, but all trims offer all-wheel drive.
Performance
When it comes to fuel economy, the 2022 Ford Escape achieves some of the best numbers when compared to other vehicles in its class. Expect to get an EPA-estimated 28 mpg in the city and 34 mpg on the highway with the base engine. Opting for the four-cylinder engine should get you 23 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the highway. Also, when properly outfitted with the 2.0-liter engine and all-wheel drive, the Escape can tow a maximum of 3,500 pounds.
Interior
With seating up to five travelers, the 2022 Escape offers plenty of space for travelers sitting in either row. Cloth upholstery comes standard, but you can opt for synthetic or genuine leather upholstery as well as heated front seats and a heated steering wheel.
The rear seats can slide back and forth for additional legroom or more cargo space. Cargo capacity is extremely generous in the SUV. Depending on how you position the sliding rear seats, the vehicle has between 33.5 and 37.5 cubic feet of space behind the second-row seats. It boasts a total of 65.4 cubic feet of space behind the first row of seats.
Its easy-to-use SYNC 3 infotainment system responds quickly to inputs; however, if you prefer to operate it via physical knobs, it has ones for climate and audio settings within reach. Upper levels offer an 8-inch touch-screen display, a Wi-Fi hot spot, navigation, satellite radio, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity.
Safety Features
Ford prioritizes safety in all its vehicles, and the 2022 Escape is no different. It comes standard with several key features such as blind-spot monitoring, automatic emergency braking, forward-collision warning, and rear cross-traffic alert. Available upgrades include stop-and-go adaptive cruise control, parallel and perpendicular park assist, traffic jam assist, and rear parking sensors.
