2022 Ford Bronco
You've probably heard of the Ford Bronco, but before the 2022 model hit the market, Ford stopped producing this vehicle 30 years after it debuted, making the 1996 model year its last. A quarter-century later, Ford decided to reintroduce the Bronco through an impressive seven different trims. Off-road enthusiasts will flock to the Bronco as it more or less caters to them. Use this guide to learn what else you can expect from this brand-new version.
Trim Levels
The 2022 Ford Bronco is available in seven trims: base, Big Bend, Black Diamond, Outer Banks, Badlands, Wildtrak, and First Edition. All models are also offered in two- or four-door body styles, with the two-door model coming with a modular hardtop and the four-door model available with a soft-top or hardtop. Its exterior pays homage to the classic 1966 Bronco, and you'll notice round headlights encased in the rectangular grille.
Engine (Power)
The 2022 Bronco has two available turbocharged engine options. The base four-cylinder engine produces 275 horsepower, while the available V-6 gets 315 horsepower. However, both engines receive an increase in horsepower output if you use premium fuel instead of regular. The turbo-four engine is mated to a seven-speed manual transmission, but you can opt for a 10-speed automatic transmission, which comes on the V-6 engine. They all come with four-wheel drive.
Performance
When it comes to fuel economy, the Bronco achieves decent numbers. Expect to get an EPA-estimated 20 mpg in the city and 22 mpg on the highway with the base engine and either transmission. With the V-6 engine, the numbers dip slightly to 18 mpg in the city and 20 mpg on the highway. Also, when properly equipped, the Bronco has a maximum towing capacity of 3,500 pounds.
Interior
Two-door Broncos seat four people, while the four-door models seat five. With either option, you'll find two rows of spacious seats that will allow even taller riders to sit comfortably. All models include drain plugs so you can hose out the interior after a muddy excursion. The vehicle also comes standard with an 8-inch touch-screen display, a USB port, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. Available upgrades include a massive 12-inch touch-screen display, navigation, extra USB ports, and wireless device charging.
If you're looking for a vehicle with excellent cargo space, this is the choice for you. Even with the two-door body style, the Bronco has 22.4 cubic feet behind the rear seats and 52.3 cubic feet of space when you fold down those seats. Four-door hardtop models boast even more space with 35.6 cubic feet behind the rear seats and 77.6 cubic feet with the seats folded. For the most space, consider the four-door soft-top with 38.3 cubic feet behind the rear seats and 83.0 cubic feet once you fold down the seats.
Safety Features
To keep everyone safe, the Ford Bronco comes standard with a handful of safety features including a rearview camera, automatic emergency braking, forward-collision warning, and pedestrian detection. Upper trims offer several safety upgrades such as blind-spot monitoring, front and rear parking sensors, driver drowsiness monitoring, and a surround-view parking camera system.
